Silver or Gold bullion for survival preps?
 

Should I buy a few gold bullion coins or a lot of silver bullion coins for survival preps?

Any articles written about this? What are your opinions?

Depends on your perceived needs for Survival PMs.
If you think you may be able to barter with it, Silver may be a better choice. If you are just looking to preserve your wealth for a brighter day after things start to return to a more normal status, Gold works well for its size.

I'd recommend both.

1/10th or 1/4 oz gold eagles pack a lot of buying power into a small space. Maybe consider a money belt or a garment concealment place.

Canada Silver Maples are .9999 pure and can be used to make colloidal silver, you can split one with a knife edge. 90% US silver coins are durable, cheap and recognizable.

Silver is a decent play to improve its ratio to gold right now. Maybe go with silver eagles and a few maple leaves, then plan to trade into gold as the spread declines. See what you pay the least amount of premium for on buy-in, and what your dealer will credit you for on a trade situation, buy accordingly. 40% silver, Kennedy halves, are always one of the safest buys because of their higher intrinsic value compared to 90% coins.

I prefer to buy from www.apmex.com for large orders........otherwise I just quietly accumulate here & there from coin shows, online deals, and local antique shops.

Gold is a bit tougher to find at a good deal locally. I agree with storing 1/10th through 1/4oz gold. There are quite a lot of European coins available too in 1/5th +/- as in the 20-francs, 20-lire, 20-corona, etc.

Generally those 1/5th oz coins are 0.1867 (0.1960 for the corona).
